Working in hazardous weather

Managing the risks of working in hazardous weather

Weather conditions can pose health and safety risks. Your workplace must have measures in place to manage the risks to health and safety caused by hazardous weather conditions, including:

  • working indoors (where possible)
  • postponing outside work
  • providing access to shelter
  • securing structures and objects and turning power off, and
  • providing protective equipment, such as eye protection and waterproof clothing.

Eliminating exposure to hazardous weather is the best protection. For example, scheduling tasks that can be completed indoors, or delaying until the weather is no longer hazardous.
